What is AP/CEP?
Senior year is a myriad of educational opportunities, college experiences, and conflicting emotions. Honors classes, college applications, and the dichotomy of leaving NNHS (or wanting to stay) plays havoc on almost all seniors. Whatever the student wants to do after high school bears on what he/she does while in high school. Any student who wishes to attend college is urged to take AP/CEP classes. Certain classes have requirements for admission, so not everyone can take AP/CEP. These restrictions/requirements are indicative of what he/she will face applying to colleges: not everyone will be admitted to the college of his/her choice. Currently, NNHS has four AP/CEP classes: AB Calculus, English Language and Composition, Spanish 4, and United States History (APUSH). Not every student will be admitted to these courses without meeting certain criteria set forth by PNW and NNHS.
AP/CEP English Language and Composition IS a COLLEGE CLASS. Each semester is a different focus. Th first semester is 3 credits for CEP students. Currently, second semester English 105 is not offered. The first semester is modeled after English 104 at PNW. Those taking the class as AP MUST take the AP English Language and Composition Exam in May. Three credits will be garnered if a student earns a 3, 4, or 5. I would advise students to take my class as CEP. Almost all universities will take PNW credit. In rare cases, some colleges may not. If so, the student will have to take the class as AP as well as take the AP Exam in May. I have information on the AP/CEP Symbaloo Mix about PL 91 and CEP and AP Credit and Placement Policies for all universities.
STUDENTS CANNOT TAKE BOTH AP AND CEP FOR CREDIT. Students must choose one or the other.
AP/CEP are classes to be taken seriously. This is an opportunity for a student to earn college credit, advancing him/her further in his/her college career. The fine details concerning CEP enrollment will be discussed with students on the first day of school.
